Making Exceptional Healthcare Personal

Our Hospital

Expect the unexpected, in the middle of our cozy southern town! Enjoy life in an area that is as diverse, as it is beautiful. Balance your work with your lifestyle. We are close to hiking, lakes, national parks, fishing and other interesting outdoor activities for all skill and interest levels.

Our Community Hospital (OCH) is not just about bricks and mortar... We’re about people. This includes relationships with all of our customers from our nursing staff, physicians, and other medical professionals to our patients. Excellent technical and team building skills are a must to continue our goals of building outstanding relationships within our medical community. We offer a friendly team-oriented environment where your ideas and opinions are carefully considered and acted upon. New graduates are welcome here!

OCH is a 100-bed private, not-for-profit medical center, operating a 24-hour emergency room, supported by a local ambulance service. We are located in the southeastern portion of Halifax County close to the banks of the lovely Roanoke River. We are the only medical center within a 20 mile radius, and work closely with Scotland Neck Family Medical Center; a clinic that is dedicated to family practice and outreach. As our vision states, we are committed to “making exceptional healthcare personal”.

OCH was one of the pilot hospitals for the "Each Peach" federal program which evolved into the Critical Access Hospital.

Designation as a Critical Access Hospital (CAH) is awarded to select small, rural hospitals and allows them to receive cost-based reimbursement for services provided to Medicare patients. To obtain this special status, each hospital underwent a survey conducted by the North Carolina Department of Health on behalf of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid. To become a CAH, hospitals must provide 24-hour emergency services along with inpatient care, laboratory and radiology services. A CAH must have no more than 15 acute-care beds or 25 total beds and keep patients an average of 96 hours or less.
